AWAKENINGS 3
Margaret McKenzie and Deirdre Bannon
This Art Therapy forum will provide an opportunity for participants who have
followed the programme since September 2008 to continue their work of
re-connecting with and exploring their own individual identity / creativity within
the safe environment of a small group setting, using art as a medium to facilitate
the process, on a weekly basis.
Making marks is an activity common to all human beings. Since ancient times,
humans have drawn, carved and scratched as forms of individual expressions
and communication. The impact of these primitive marks is important in the
understanding of how art is used as a means of communication.
Art therapy involves the use of different art media through which a person can
express and work through issues and concerns that have led him or her to explore
it. The art process facilitates the emergence of inner experience and feelings
and the art materials provide a tangible means through which conscious and
unconscious aspects of the person can be expressed.
