Dr Tony Humphreys
How we communicate is a reflection of our inner state of being. When we have a strong and deep connection with self, acknowledge and honour our thoughts and feelings and take responsibility for all that arises in us, our communication will be authentic, open and spontaneous. When we carry unresolved inner fears and insecurities, our communication with self and, most likely with others, runs the risk of being critical, aggressive, passive or defensive.
Whenever we attempt to persuade another – and some people develop a habitual aggressive communication style – we unwittingly disclose that we ourselves are not at all convinced about what we are saying.
True communication is, first and foremost, an inner experience which involves an active listening to and affirmation of our own inner thoughts and feelings to such an extent that we take ownership of and responsibility for them. We can even learn how to bring about a resolution of any inner conflict we may observe in ourselves before attempting to engage in meaningful communication with another.
In the course of this workshop Dr Humphreys will explore the core dynamics of good communication and identify some basic skills which will empower participants to enhance their own communication style in practical, life-enriching ways.
