A life of my Own
Aileen McGee
On Tuesday 17th November 2016 Aileen Mc Gee’s second book, A Life of Our Own, was launched by Omagh born journalist, author and columnist, Martina Devlin, here at the Tara Centre. In this book Aileen chronicles her 18 year long journey towards claiming a life of her own while at the same time relentlessly pursuing every known and unknown avenue towards ensuring a life of his own for her autistic son, Cian.
The energy in the hall that night was truly inspiring as mother read key passages from her book while family, friends and the general public witnessed the relatively independent life she had secured for Cian.
Following the book launch, Aileen offered a six week programme on the same theme here at the Tara Centre. Attendance at the course and evaluations completed at the end of the course encouraged us to offer it again during this Summer term.
As before, in this six week programme participants will have an opportunity to consider 12 tried and tested stepping stones that can lead to an authentic and fulfilled life irrespective of the challenges which life can throw up at any time.
Opportunities will be provided for course participants to explore in depth how to grasp the nuggets of wisdom distilled from Aileen’s own life experience, consider similar challenges life may be presenting for them and find ways in which they too can map out a life of their own.
