Dr Éamon Phoenix

It is with delight that we welcome Dr Éamon Phoenix, Lecturer in History and Head of Life Long Learning at Stranmillis University College, Belfast, back to the Tara Centre.

The really good news is that Dr Phoenix has committed to offering more than one programme at Tara between now and the end of the present calendar year.

For starters, he will be with us in June to present an interactive one day seminar covering the
years from 1912-1916 in the context of the present Decade of Centenaries. Given the Omagh venue, Éamon will reference key Tyrone figures active during those years. The remit will also be broadened to include more widely known high-profile leaders and events such as Carson, Unionism, Home Rule, the Easter Rising, the Battle of the Somme, etc.

We are confident that Éamon will lead us into this challenging arena with his intimate knowledge of the subject from the perspective of both traditions and will provide us with an opportunity to explore our past in a manner which will empower us to grow in mutual understanding of, and respect for, our shared history on this Island.

The format of the day will include talks, excerpts from the Robert Kee TV series and discussion groups.

Full payment can be accepted at the time of booking. Alternatively, a £5 non-refundable booking fee must be paid at the time of booking. Either payment secures your place on the event of your choice. If paying a deposit, the balance is payable any time up to and including registration on the day of the event.

A place will be reserved only for persons who have either paid the full course fee or a deposit. If there are no places available when you contact Reception, you will be offered a place on the waiting list, if available. You will be notified if a place becomes available, up to 24 hours before or on the morning of the event.

If you need to cancel your booking, we require 7 days’ notice before the event, we can then offer the place to someone on the waiting list. The Centre reserves the right to cancel or change details of any event should unforeseen circumstances require this. In the event of the Centre cancelling a course, fees/deposits will be returned in full.

Exceptional circumstances and eligibility for concessionary fees may be discussed in confidence with the Chief Executive Officer.
