Dr Éamon Phoenix
A GUIDED TOUR OF HISTORICAL BELFAST
OLD BELFAST, FROM PLANTATION TOWN TO GOLDEN AGE
As previously advertised we now confirm that Dr. Éamon Phoenix, well-known political historian, broadcaster, newspaper columnist and member of the Taoiseach’s ‘Expert Advisory Group on Centenaries’ will act as expert guide for a day-long tour.
This tour will explore ‘Old Belfast, from Plantation Town to Golden Age’ with its heady mix of liberalism, radical politics and cultural renaissance, following the footsteps of the United Irishmen through the entries of the Georgian town, taking in Clifton House (and the music of the Belfast Harp Festival of 1792), West Belfast (Peace Wall), Titanic Quarter, City Hall, and Stormont (time permitting).
Dr Phoenix will facilitate factual and mature dialogue through visiting historical sites, illustrating how the present reality of Northern Ireland took root and has relevance for our lives to this present day.
