Note: This one-day workshop is open exclusively to professional Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Art Therapists.

Dr. Barbara Mitchels is the Director of Watershed Counselling Service, a BACP Registered Practitioner (Senior Accredited) and Fellow of BACP, with over twenty five years post qualification experience in counselling and psychotherapy, working in a wide variety of settings. She is also a Law Society accredited Family Mediator. Barbara writes widely – her books and journal papers are mainly on topics relevant to therapy and the law, ethics and best practice, mediation, confidentiality and record keeping, working with trauma and supporting vulnerable witnesses in the court processes.

In this workshop, Dr. Mitchels will address the following topics:

  • outline of recent developments in ethics, law and guidance;
  • introduction to the duties and responsibilities of therapy and supervision practice;
  • contracts;
  • consideration of specific situations/dilemmas;
  • tort, duty of care and negligence;
  • high risk situations and dilemmas;
  • scenarios: ethical situations/dilemmas;
  • record keeping;
  • data protection;
  • decision making, capacity and consent;
  • best practice in making disclosures and sharing records;

Throughout the day there will be group work and plenary sessions with time for questions and discussion.

    Full payment can be accepted at the time of booking. Alternatively, a £5 non-refundable booking fee must be paid at the time of booking. Either payment secures your place on the event of your choice. If paying a deposit, the balance is payable any time up to and including registration on the day of the event.

    A place will be reserved only for persons who have either paid the full course fee or a deposit. If there are no places available when you contact Reception, you will be offered a place on the waiting list, if available. You will be notified if a place becomes available, up to 24 hours before or on the morning of the event.

    If you need to cancel your booking, we require 7 days’ notice before the event, we can then offer the place to someone on the waiting list. The Centre reserves the right to cancel or change details of any event should unforeseen circumstances require this. In the event of the Centre cancelling a course, fees/deposits will be returned in full.

    Exceptional circumstances and eligibility for concessionary fees may be discussed in confidence with the Chief Executive Officer.
